A good movie for a change... naahhh

I was a bit wary to write this blog out of only excuse to being called a film critic, out of hesitation to offend some who may have liked the movie, but I could not resist to share, to put down my feelings after a spat of watching three movies in three weeks.
Having office near shopping malls and multiplexes has its own share of advantages and disadvantages and in my case the biggest disadvantage is that I have created a fetish to watch most of the movies in their first week, the lame excuse being what else is there for entertainment in noida apart from these malls, and movies (ok somewhere deep down I know that I am developing a bad indulgence ;)
From January to February last week I saw three movies, each one driven by family and friends raving reviews.

The first one in the list: luck by chance :I jumped on the chance to see this movie because I did not go to see rock on , so lets go and see this movie , it turned out to be ok , nothing great , nothing bad , for the first time I did not like hrithik roshan and above all the bit confusing was what was isha sherwani trying to portray , is she that much dumb or what . For me it was not the best of the performances by konkana, she has portrayed far more superior characters (she was too good in mr and mrs iyer ) , and above all the most cutest couple award should go to rishi kapoor and juhi chawla they still have the charm of bol radha bol .
Anyways it was a ok time pass, maybe likeable for some like my sister and a easy avoidable movie on theatres for me

The next week released billu (…..barber ) I had lot of expectations in terms of comedy and simple yet touching portrayals by its director priyadarshan, but once again things don’t always turn out as we try to presume them
There were only two instance consistent in the whole movie the cheesy dialogues by irfan khan (our very own billu) and the omittance of barber in the songs or wherever it finds the mention (the title song was awesome those who must have listened must be knowing about mention of word barber, but when this was being played in the cinema it goes like this .. apna billu ……………………. Apna biluuu ………….) one uncle sitting next to me seemed to be confused and very innocently asked his wife picture kat kat k kyun dikha rahe hain ..
Anyways the picture seems to be some sort of answer of sharukh to aamir that he is the ultimate king khan and how much he is idolized.
and please someone tell lara dutta that she does not look like a gaon ki gori with highlighted hair and a accented hindi dialogue delivery
In the end I felt it like a halka fulka time pass, a good performance by irfan khan , out and out its his movie .

The most disappointing of the lot was delhi -6. I was determined to not to go to see this movie unless and until I have confirmed about its reviews and how worth it is to spend on.
After hearing about the reviews from my office colleague I thought to go for it, how bad it could be it has a good star cast, raving songs and a director whose debutant was awesome
Finally I make it on a weekday to spice world to find out only 25 people in the hall.
The movie starts of with the kala Bandar and ends with it, I was utterly confused why was it named delhi -6 when the most apt title should have been kala Bandar.
The most important question: where is delhi in the movie on Delhi leave apart chandni chowk .
In the name of delhi we see glimpses of metro, a jhalak of India gate and tit bit glimpses of some of the places of Delhi in the Delhi hai mere yaar song.
Apart from that a zilch of Delhi, it could have been easily named kala Bandar and the way abhishek is shown jumping the roof tops , made me wonder why was he made to jump like a monkey from one roof to another.
The only good thing about the movie is the support cast (this does not include cyrus sahukar , why was he there in the movie and someone please explain me in the same night few hrs before he had plans to run away with sonam kapoor and after that he runs away with lala ji wife ??? why ) , and the end roit situation.
Overall my cousins reaction provides a jist to the whole movie “ ye kala bandar ki story thi, isse achha national geographic dekh lete... J”(it is a movie on black monkey , it would have been good to see the national geographic )

Nice review, well thanks for commenting me... I totally agree, all the 3 movies are bad in the descendin g order: delhi-6(worst), billu and luck by chance. may be it is a phase of experimentation in bollywood, lots of money, but little good ideas... Dev-D is a good movie in contrast, a successful experimentation. I hear from friends that "Aa dekhen zaraa" will be a hit, which i am rather skeptical of. I too have developed the same habit, on my laptop too, i may be seeing 3-4 movies weekly.

You seem too frusturated and disaapointed. I guess it is due to the fact that you've spend so much on these movies..actually you r a complete movie buff....
I don't know about billu and luck by chance but delhi 6 is a nice movie.
I found movie good. I guess people went with so much of extra baggage of expectations and thats why only they are disappinted now. I know the movie is not that great as RDB but movie is really good.
The whole cast is superb specially gobar, jalebi and mamdu...Applaud for them...
And its not me alone there are many who found delhi 6 a good movie except some who went in with some pre-concieved notions. My all friends found this a really good movie and not the worst....
Delhi 6 is indeed a good movie for change.... :)

so seema has fianlly proven that she is an ardent fan of sonam kapoor because she liked the saawariyan a lot too, and i have no issues about the suuport cast see i have praised them indeed the character of gobar and divya dutta were well etched out , maybe it was due to the support cast that there were some well crafted scenes .

I'm glad that someone has actually voiced their opinions over Dilli-6. Luck by.. was an OK movie with Rishi being the Charm he always has been.. Billu, I havent seen but would like to see for Irfan..(heard he has done some gr8 work).. Dilli-6, what a Holy Crap that was..!!There were bits when the side actors Vijayraj, OmPuri, Rishi made some impression..Abhi was at his Irritating best, along with the subject of the film: The S***ty Kala bandar.(pardon me for the language but I couldnt do without it)..The only saving grace was Rehmans music(gr8 work!!) and Sania(Yes, you heard it right, she was at the hall and we talked for a while).. Wel, its been long time coming and things are getting worse now. Last year too, apart from a couple of films(which included the likes of Wednesday ,Ghajini...),rest were either merely time-pass or not even that. This year started with a BANG with SUPER-HIT movies like CC2C, VICTORY...(dont get me wrong, they were indeed HIT hard out of the cinemas). How can somebody make movies like this and then expect them to do well.. If this is how things are going to be,it should not be long before Film industry too has GooseBumps over recession..!!!

I didn't liked the movie because of Sonam..the movie was good. I liked it because of the whole cast. It was all clear from the promotional campaigns that there is a big part of Kala Bandar in it, if you guys didnt paid attention to it then sorry I can't help it.

hey seems just tell me one thing what was there about delhi leave apart delhi -6 ???

Hey Seema..I too am really sorry that I actually went in for the movie. As for Sonam she hardly had any significance in the film. And you are talking about promos.. Huh..!! Promos did reflect that something about Kala bandar would spice up things but never in the wildest dreams would one have thought that movie would be based on such a CRAP subject. Wel, nothing personal but the movie was a shear disappointment and I would not advise anybody to go and see it even if paid to do so. Cheers..!!

It was about Delhi-6 not delhi tourism if you were expecting to get to see all major parts of Delhi and moreover it was not picturised in Delhi due to some troubles. The culture and oneness among people of different religions is much prevalent in Delhi and Delhi-6 being the oldest part is the perfect location.
And well Nikhil I had watched Rakeysh's interview and he has said that Kala Bandar is very much there in the movie and an important part of the movie. It was just a method to show how easily everyone gets involved in communalism and hatred.
At the end I just want to say it really doesn't bother me much what everyone here thinks about Delhi-6. Me and my friends found the movie quite good. :)

hey nikhil and seema
i am glad that my blog is acting as a medium to exchange the two contrasting views to the same movie , each one has a distinct choice and viewpoint , more like two flipping sides of the same coin.
its good that some liked it, but the major part for not liking was the dissapointment for some like me who had some great expectation for a good movie(thanks to the hype, carried with it ,some good music by a.r. rehman & the past of rdb attached to it )
overall its a personal choice to form the opinion :)

lUCk By Chance is defffinitely a Class Apart movie!! And coming from a debutante!!
Delhi-6... hmmm
Ur blog raises a number of points...
1) I blv, ROM's debut ws Aks- a very deep n well made movie-but as in del-6; lakd grip. From that perspective; dis movie is definitely better.
2) Del-6 n hence locational focus on CC
3)Guess d focus on Kala Bandar ws idiomatic- n dat msg is wat really makes dis one endearing.

Finally, the disappointment is perfectly understandable; but as we talked earlier, stems from the hype. In my opinion, all in all- a must watch - atleast once (second time is gonna be tough fosho :P)
